Reading Strategies, before approaching the text with your teachers.
  • 1st Identify the type of text, just looking very carefully over the text to see which elements appear (such as titles, subtitles, headings, subheadings, illustrations, pictures, captions, questions... all the text format (bold, italics, font colour...), spatial disposition (columns, paragraphs...),  and all kind of details that can give you some relevant information (dates, names...)
  • 2nd Read the passage silently and by yourself. Try to guess new vocabulary by context or if it is necessary, look up the unknown words in a dictionary. You may need to reread the passage several times.
  • Ask somebody in your family to read the text aloud for you. Listen carefully to the text, trying to picture the words. "Visualize the text"
  • After reading, talk about it, share what you imagine, feel or just talk about what attracts your attention, and record it on a post-it "What did I find really interesting?" (something interesting for you, anecdotical, relevant...)
